SolutionSet was formed as an answer to what was missing in the market: a firm that was technical enough to implement complex systems, but creative enough to make the systems beautiful and easy to use.
Brand 2.0 Started Here
Launched in 2003, SolutionSet is the evolution and culmination of the partners' creative agency and tech firm business initiatives dating back to the late nineties. These partners combined their agency effort and experience to form an integrated brand solution provider, which is SolutionSet in its current manifestation. So while the official beginning of SolutionSet dates back to 2003, the people and partners within the company have been at work for top-tier clients long before that.
Timeline of Key Achievements:
2003 — SolutionSet is formed by Alex Kaplinsky in San Francisco, CA as a virtual consulting company featuring key new clients such as TiVo and Seagate.
2004 — SolutionSet begins to do work for major agencies in San Francisco. Key new clients include John Kerry for President and CES.
2005 — KrushMedia, a creative-focused boutique founded by Alex Kim and Robert Balmaseda, joins SolutionSet. SolutionSet opens a new headquarters at 131 Lytton, Palo Alto, and a second office in San Francisco's SOMA district with 20 staff and employees. Key new clients include Autodesk, EFI, Magellan, and VeriSign.
2006 — SolutionSet expands its service offering, adding deeper creative and marketing expertise. SolutionSet grows to 50 staff and employees. Key new clients include Aruba Networks, Chronicle Books, and Education.com.
2007 — SolutionSet expands creative offering, wins two Webby honorable mentions, moves to a new flagship office space in San Francisco, receives investment by Fog City Capital, and ranks No. 95 in the 2007 Inc. 500 list overall and No. 10 in the IT Services category, with a growth rate of 1,582.1%. SolutionSet grows to 90 staff and employees. Key new clients include eBay, Kaboose, Modstream, Stanford University, San Francisco Symphony, and Peninsula Open Space Trust.
2008 — Kurt Garbe joins SolutionSet as the company's new Chief Executive Officer. SolutionSet opens new satellite offices at 275 Alma Street, Palo Alto. SolutionSet projects win four Webby honorable mentions in the Community, Education, and Family and Parenting categories. SolutionSet grows to 100+ staff and employees and continues to win marquee Fortune 1000 brands as clients.
