11th Hour Project, a Silicon Valley-based non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to popularizing high-level, high-quality information about solutions to global warming. Founded by Wendy Schmidt, wife of Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google, 11th Hour works to change public perceptions about climate crisis from hand-wringing hopelessness to engaged, hands-on problem-solving. Besides funding grants, the organization puts on events and activities directly themselves.
the challenge
11th Hour Project came to SolutionSet with an influential group of supporters, but this professional perception wasn't reflected in the organization's homespun website. Information was sparse and hard to find, and the site design didn't match the high-level wealth of ideas and constructive energy for which 11th Hour Project was known. Additionally, the organization had been mistakenly confused as belonging to Al Gore, so a clear Who We Are page would be necessary to remedy this confusion.
the solution
The SolutionSet design team leveraged 11th Hour's logo for the color palette, and created a look and feel meant to evoke hope and urgency-that if we act today, we can affect the effects of global warming-an idea that is supported by a daily flash/xml calendar tip on the homepage. The development team brought the design to life and implemented a sleek, custom MODx CMS backend so the client can manage and update the content moving forward. The final result: a great-looking site matched with control on the backend, equipping a timely organization to spread a timely message.
