Silkroad Institute was founded to provide contemporary, compelling, and fun, educational videos to the western world about Chinese language and culture. Its goal is to educate, entertain, and provide real and unique insight into modern Chinese life, reflecting the many colorful and remarkable facets of this culture.
Challenge
Create a compelling website experience to provide videos educating the western world on Chinese culture and language
As a start-up, the Silkroad Institute website did not exist. The company needed a visually appealing website on which to promote itself as a new company, to bring in instructors as well as students, and to sell educational videos. The website needed to be robust enough to handle a multitude of Flash videos as well as allow for users to register, login, and purchase tokens with which to purchase videos.
Solution
Design and develop a website to support Silkroad Institute's needs
SolutionSet designed the Silkroad Institute website to evoke both traditional and modern Chinese culture, as well as appear both educational and fun. SolutionSet also custom coded a video player to play Flash videos and pull in intro videos and playlists after the video has played. SolutionSet then implemented an xCart ecommerce content management system on which to base the website. The final product: a robust website with a clean, Asian design where users can register and login, purchase Silknotes, or tokens, with which they could then purchase and view educational videos on the website itself.
