UN World Environment Day 2005
“SolutionSet is the most professional technology firm I have dealt with. The WED Team is non-technical and distributed across many organizations. SolutionSet was sensitive to our situation and took real pride in making our project a success.”

Client
World Environment Day (WED), an annual event established by the United Nations in 1972, hosted in different cities around the world and commemorated through an international exposition stimulating environmental awareness and promoting political attention and public action
Challenge
Worldwide communication, non-technical staff, and annual site overhaul
The UN WED needed a website that could be managed by their non-technical staff and support such features as a content management system, donations, events, and email list management. They also needed an Intranet with productivity tools to allow remotely based team members around the world to collaborate. The site needed to be reusable and adaptable, to change as the commemoration host city changed each year. A design partner was in place, but UN WED lacked a technology partner to implement the site. They came to SolutionSet.
Solution
Easy-to-use content management system—on a budget
Understanding that the UN WED was a non-profit organization with a limited budget, SolutionSet explored open source solutions and built a platform to integrate both third-party and specially customized open source applications. SolutionSet also constructed a custom PHP-based content management system to control the dynamic text elements of the site and a full-featured User registration/management system to keep members around the world up-to-date. The final product: an internet presence and intranet communication tool keeping everyone focused on environmental issues.
Results
Easy-to-manage site with CMS
